Sammy's the one to ask on this if my memory serves.....In another post, she recommended it, and gave the following link for the best training, by Scrapgirls university:

Hi Karen, hope you are getting on well with Photoshop - I got an older version last year and was a bit lost myself - but I have found literally trillions of tutorials on the internet for all sorts from photo manipulation to graphic designing and the best bit is that most of it is free free free!

Trust in google and dive in.

Karen,

That's a shame. Seems a shame to waste a very versatile software package - I have not tried the one that you have been using but having persevered with Photoshop, I know design a lot of things on it. For me, it's not just about what you can do in it, but how easy it is to get things in and out of it - if that makes sense.

Be worth putting it on e-bay if you don't plan on using it - it could add quite a bit of cash to your pocket - let me know if you list it and I may just bid myself.

All the best,
James.

Sorry to hear that Karen. Being a keen photographer (as well as GSD designer) I use Photoshop for nearly everything I design, from backing papers and kits and even my cutting files. I tried all the graphic packages going and always went back to Photoshop.

It really is worth the effort to learn. If I can help at all with anything, just give me a shout and I will do my best to help you if I can.

Thank you for your offer of help Hazel, everyone keeps saying photoshop is so much better and if Im honest I havent really given it a chance. I need time to just play with it, but with working full time and trying to get sheets done for this site and keep up with my cardmaking I dont have enough hours in the day ;)

If I decide to sell it James Ill let you know. x

Ok I finally got some videos tutorials done,

One really basic on how to open a blank document and another demonstrating how to use the new side stepper template,

The tutorials are done in CS2 because the programme I used to make them is on my main pc and my cs4 is on my laptop, without realising I purchased the programme for one machine and cant not transfer it to my laptop, once I have it sorted I’ll also do the tutorial is cs4, there’s really no difference other than the look, most of the functions are more or less the same,

If you have any requests on what you’d like to see let me know and I’ll do them for you,

Here’s the link;

Can't wait to sit down and have a look at the vids you have done as I am eager to learn CS3 :D

I wouldn't mind seeing a vid on how you create your backing papers and how you do step by step sheets as I'm sure I do everything the long way round and these would be very useful for me :D:D:D:D:D:D

Do everything the same as you have described then make sure you have the move tool selected in your tool bar or press V (it’s a keyboard short cut that will select the move tool for you)

Then drag the image into the stacker,

If you hold down your shift key while you drag it over it will land dead centre
Let me know how you get on

Yayyyyyyyyy WTG Karen.... Just my turn now to try it out!!

Look forward to seeing how you create backing papers Sammy and also interested in how you do your step by steps (decoupage) as I only know of one way which is very long and complicated...

Admin
16th February 2010, 02:15 PM
I've just added a very basic backing paper tutorial, to show you how to use the patterns

If you have any questions just shout,

the videos are quite fast sorry :icon_redface: if I go slow they end up being really large files and they take to long to upload, I’ve tried uploaded them to YouTube in the past but they lose there quality so much you can really see what’s happening

Debbie I’ll do a very basic decoupage for you!

karenh
16th February 2010, 04:04 PM
Its not a problem being fast, I can go into my media player and slow them down but then is reeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllllyyyyyyyyy slow lollollollol
Going to try and get the rest of the wavy line one done now. CONFCONF

I've been trying to do some more tutorials today but i really need to be able to talk as there are some instructions i cant show you CONFlol so i went to pc world and got a pc mic  you'll all be able to hear my voice :eek:lollol it's the only way i can really help you all ;)

I can tell you i'm not looking forward to the sound of my own voice :eek: lollol

Decoupage is next on the list, then if you have anything else you’d like to see just let me know,

What I was going to do is show you how I work!! I can record me myself making a variety of things, by watching me you should pick things up really quick and you’ll also be able to see what sort of things you can do in Photoshop, and you’ll be able to ask questions on how,
keep an eye in the Ask Questions -How To - Tutorials forum!! i will start a new post for every subjects as i get to it that way you can refer back to it should you need to :)

Hi Sammy,

Had a quick look at the backing paper tutorial and seems very straight forward! I am assuming that the same process will apply if your wanting to use a graphic? Or is this completely different?

Looking forward to watching the decoupage one and really looking forward to see how you generally work as you do provide some excellent designs :D:D and it's always interesting to see how others work!

Thank you so much for all of this Sammy, it is a great help :D:D:D

Debbie x

Admin
17th February 2010, 09:30 AM
Yes the same process applies if you use a graphic, I would recommend that you never go bigger then 500px x 500 px, as this will slow down your pc, I have a huge collection of patterns which I use on a regular basis, once you have them saved you can use them time and time again,

I tend to stick to 250px x 250px or 500px x 500px,

The reason being!! You can use more than one pattern on a backing paper, you can build up your layers if you wish and if all your patterns are made to the same dimension you’ll be able to layer them on your sheet and they will look really nice, I’ll show you a demo this as well

Decoupage hopefully coming today

Thanks Sammy, will have a play tonight now I know the same rule applies! Just one more question....

When using the pattern to floodfill for your backing paper can you adjust the size? I know you can do this in PSP but not sure for is it's the same for Photoshop!

Debbie x

Admin
17th February 2010, 02:53 PM
Yes you can adjust the scale, when you have the pattern fill box open it will be set at 100% but you can go bigger or smaller, I’m just going to get started on some more demos for you

karenh
18th February 2010, 07:25 PM

Sammy the decoupage video is brilliant, cant believe how quick it is to make a decoupage sheet, I wont tell you how long it used to take me in psp :icon_redface::icon_redface::icon_redface: I will now be able to make more decoupage sheets, really didnt enjoy making them before.

Cant thank you enough for the videos, I love my cs3 now, plus it doesnt freeze like my psp x2.
